Senators Want Probe of Defaulting FEMA Contractor

A group of seven Senators are urging authorities within the  Department of Homeland Security to investigate a Florida contractor that defaulted on a FEMA contract.

Bronze Star LLC, a small Florida company had won more than $30 million in contracts for desperately needed relief supplies in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Bronze Star was to deliver emergency tarps and plastic sheeting to assist with covering tens of thousands of Puerto Rican homes damaged by the storm's winds -- but the contractor failed to deliver any of the much needed supplies.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency eventually terminated the contracts without paying any money. Now Senators want questions answered, to better understand why Bronze Star LLC was awarded the contract in the first place, and what actions will be taken as a result of their failure to deliver.

The probe is being requested by Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin. They are joined by Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont.
